Textiles and clothing are among the most important sectors of the Turkish economy and foreign trade. These two sectors are the core of Turkish economy in terms of GDP contribution, share in manufacturing, employment, investments and macroeconomic indicators. These sectors had a 16% share in total export volume in 2019. The Turkish textile industry, which is listed 8th largest exporter in the world and is the 3th largest supplier to the EU. The textile and raw materials sector in our region has been manufacturing for various international well-known brands, chain stores and apparel producers for decades. Thanks to its skilled labor, technical infrastructure and knowledge, the sector is well-equipped with the necessary know-how and experience in order to serve with quick and flexible responses to the buyers.

Textile industry, both in our region and in Turkey, is now heading for technological products, technical textile products, smart products with high performance and multifunctionality. In this contex, TEKSMER-Technical Textiles and Research and Development Center was established in partnership with both Aegean Textile and Raw Material Exporters’ Association and Aegean Apparel Exporters Association in 2014  to support Textile sector’s enhancement of competitiveness in the field of technical textiles. TEKSMER offers an extensive range of activities to the Textile industry including tests & analyses, Research & Development (technical textile consultancy, high-value added product development, project management) and organization of technical textile related trainings, workshops and seminars especially in our Aegean Region.

Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Associations has about 500 exporter members and represents more than 275 million USD export volume.
